I spend a lot of time talking about work, support, admin, organisation, and helping businesses… but there’s obviously a lot more to me than inboxes and colour-coded calendars. So I thought I’d do something a little different and share 5 completely random things about me — because honestly, I think personality matters too!

5 Random Things About Me (So You Can Get To Know Me Better)

1. I’m completely obsessed with travel

If you know me personally, this probably isn’t new information because I will find a way to bring travel into almost every conversation possible. So far, I’ve visited 19 countries, and country number 20 is about to be Canada as part of an Alaska cruise which is genuinely a massive bucket list moment for me. I’ve been lucky enough to have some incredible experiences over the years, including living in Australia for 4 months, exploring Rio de Janeiro, travelling across lots of Europe, and visiting Las Vegas multiple times because honestly… there really is no place like Vegas. I love everything about travel! The excitement, the people, the cultures, the random stories you come home with, and that feeling of seeing somewhere new for the first time. I’m always planning the next adventure, even if it’s just mentally while sitting at home in joggers.

2. I am a VERY proud Steps fan

Yes. That Steps. And before anyone says “that’s a bit cheesy” firstly, rude. Secondly, if you actually listen to some of their lyrics, there are some surprisingly dark themes hidden behind all the glitter and dance routines. I’ve loved them since I was a child, which means we’re approaching nearly 30 years of dedication at this point. I’ve seen them live 11 times, met them twice, and recently even got a tattoo to commemorate my love for them. Younger me probably would’ve tried to pretend I listened to cooler music… current me could not care less. I love what I love. Also, their musical? Absolute cheese on toast and I loved every second of it.

3. I’ve completed the Great North Run twice

And honestly? It’s one of the things I’m most proud of. Now, slight disclaimer here… for the first one I did approximately zero training and genuinely thought I might not survive somewhere around mile 9. But somehow I made it. Twice. There’s just something incredibly special about the Great North Run, especially being from the North East. The atmosphere is unreal, the support is amazing, and crossing that finish line feels emotional whether you’re a runner or not. I’ve had some foot problems over the past few years (plus what I lovingly call my “Covid weight gain era”), but my goal is to complete it for a third time in 2027. Because honestly? It’s iconic.

4. I have 15 tattoos… and counting!

I love tattoos, especially random holiday tattoos. Some of mine have meaning, some were spontaneous, some are tiny, some are bigger, and one cost me 10 dollars in Vegas which honestly tells you everything you need to know about my decision-making skills at times. Do I regret them? Mostly no. Well… apart from one. Which I got when I was 18 and now nearly 20 years later absolutely despise. We’ve all made questionable life choices, okay? Thankfully I’m currently looking into getting it covered. But overall, I love that tattoos tell stories and capture different moments in life... even the chaotic ones.

5. I am weirdly obsessed with planes

And I mean obsessed. I love reading about planes, how they work, aviation history, incidents, safety procedures… honestly, if there’s a plane documentary on TV, I’m watching it. I live under the flight path for Newcastle Airport, so if I hear a plane overhead, you better believe I’m immediately checking FlightRadar24 to see where it’s going. Sometimes, to relax, I even watch the Heathrow live streams. Yes, I fully appreciate how nerdy this sounds. No, I do not care. I’ve already decided that when I retire, I’ll probably be one of those people sitting near an airport with a picnic happily watching planes take off and land for hours. Fun fact: a few years ago on the way to Crete, the plane I was on got struck by lightning while landing… right next to the window I was sitting at. Slightly terrifying at the time, not going to lie, but it also sent me down a complete aviation rabbit hole afterwards about what could’ve happened and how planes handle lightning strikes. So really… that experience just made the obsession worse.

Final Thoughts

I hope these random little facts have helped you get to know me a bit better outside of work. I might not be the coolest person in the world, but honestly? I like what I like, and I think there’s something quite nice about unapologetically enjoying the things that make you happy! Whether that’s travelling the world, listening to Steps, collecting questionable tattoos, or tracking planes for fun. Life’s far too short to pretend to be someone you’re not.
