Pride Month is a celebration, but for many people in the LGBTQIA+ community, it’s also a reminder of just how important it is to feel accepted, supported, and safe for simply being yourself. As someone who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community myself, I know first-hand how nerve-wracking it can feel opening up about who you are, especially in professional spaces or when trying to build a business. Even now, there can still be that little moment of hesitation: “Will this change how people see me?” “Will clients treat me differently?” “Am I safe being fully myself here?” And honestly, that feeling shouldn’t exist… but for many people, it still does. That’s one of the reasons inclusivity matters so much to me, both personally and professionally.
My business has always been built around people, understanding, and support. Whether I’m helping someone with admin, social media, organisation, websites, or business support, I want every client to feel comfortable, respected, and able to show up as themselves without fear of judgement. Because the reality is, running a business is hard enough without also worrying about whether you’ll be accepted. As a Virtual Assistant and Business Support Worker, I work with people from all walks of life, and I strongly believe everyone deserves support that feels safe, inclusive, and genuinely understanding.
For LGBTQIA+ business owners, freelancers, and creatives, there can sometimes be an unspoken pressure to “tone yourself down” professionally, especially online or when attracting new clients. I completely understand that feeling. Sometimes just knowing the person supporting your business understands those experiences can make a huge difference. You don’t have to explain yourself. You don’t have to filter who you are. You can just focus on growing your business with someone who genuinely supports you and wants to see you succeed. Representation matters because visibility creates safety. And safety allows confidence to grow.
For me, being a Virtual Assistant isn’t just about organising inboxes, managing diaries, scheduling content, or updating websites... although I do all of that too! It’s also about creating positive working relationships built on trust, communication, and understanding. I know how vulnerable running a business can feel sometimes. Putting yourself out there, promoting yourself online, networking, and attracting clients can already feel intimidating enough. Feeling accepted while doing it shouldn’t be another challenge added to the list. That’s why I’m passionate about creating a business that is welcoming, inclusive, and supportive for everyone, especially those within the LGBTQIA+ community who may have struggled to feel fully comfortable in professional spaces before.
Pride Month is important because visibility and celebration matter. But inclusivity shouldn’t begin and end in June. It should exist in the way we speak to people, support people, work with people, and create environments where everyone feels respected and valued all year round. At the heart of my business is something very simple: I want people to feel safe, supported, and able to be themselves. Because when people feel accepted for who they are, they’re able to show up more confidently, not just in business, but in life too. And honestly? That’s something worth celebrating every single month of the year.
